Some people are skeptical of online employment. To many, the idea of making money without having to report to an office or physical jobsite seems foreign. But online jobs are very real. They exist in a variety of industries from publishing to recruiting to teaching; this article will focus on internet teaching opportunities.

How to Get Teaching Jobs Online

People get online jobs the same way they get traditional jobs – by applying, presenting work experience and qualifications, and beating out other applicants for open positions. However, some differences between the two application processes exist.

In order to get a traditional teaching job, applicants are typically interviewed in person. For an online teaching job, everything from the application to the interview is typically conducted remotely. Some applicants must interview by phone, but an in-person appearance is rarely required for an internet teaching job.

Find Online Teaching Jobs – Education Employment Opportunities

Online colleges boast massive enrollment numbers; thus, online universities have a need for qualified online instructors. In fact, the United States Department of Education reported that the University of Phoenix online campus, alone, had over 165,000 enrolled students in 2006.

The initial application process at many online colleges simply involves submitting an interest form electronically. Any online teaching job applicants who makes it past initial screening (a check that they meet basic education and work experience requirements) may be asked to submit a letter of intent, character and/or personal references, and conduct a phone interview. Upon clearing those hurdles, a job applicant may be required to go through online orientation and training, teaching one class under supervision before being officially approved to facilitate online classes alone.

Degrees Required for Virtual Teaching Opportunities

An online college instructor is often required to possess at least a master’s degree; many universities require a PhD.

Rewarding Work on the Internet – Online College Instructor Jobs

The process to obtaining a teaching job online can be quite grueling, but those who do land this type of education employment opportunity will be rewarded with the flexibility of a job that can be performed from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Online teaching jobs can be very rewarding. Many students are returning to school after a hiatus while others just want to get a degree in order to land a promotion. Online college instructors get to help others achieve their life goals and influence current and next generation workforces.

The Flexibility of Online Employment, Internet Teaching Jobs

Because all of the work is done online, one of the biggest perks of an internet teaching job is that it can usually be done in addition to a regular full-time job. As such, online instructors can draw on actual professional experience to give students the real-world knowledge necessary to succeed in a particular field of work.
