Free Printable Halloween Crossword Puzzles
The DLTK-holidays website offers several types of Halloween crossword puzzles suggested for kids in grades 1 through 4. There are regular picture crosswords, picture crosswords with word lists (hints), word clue crosswords with word lists, and regular word clue crossword puzzles with no word lists. The DLTK website indicates that the even preschool age children may be able to complete a picture crossword with a word list; the site recommends the regular Halloween crossword with no word list for grades 3 and up.

All the Halloween crossword puzzles mentioned above can be printed in color or black & white. There is one answer key for each type. The regular crossword puzzles are made Halloween-themed with an image of a witch in a black dress with a pumpkin design. For the easier picture crosswords, kids must identify the following: a bat, spider, pumpkin, vampire, broom, and moon.

The site also boasts spider crossword puzzles, although the navigation is not clear cut. To get to these activities, go to the link below, click on “Crossword Puzzles,” scroll to the bottom of the page, then click on “Spider Crosswords.” The spider puzzles are available in the same variety as the Halloween ones above (regular picture crossword, pictures with word list, regular crossword with word list, and regular crossword without word list).
Although the site indicates that the spider crossword puzzle with pictures and a word list is appropriate for first grade through third grade children (those just learning how to spell), the images may be difficult to identify simply because the images may not be recognizable to a young child. The images of eggs, spiderlings, and a black widow seem especially difficult to identify. If the child may not know all of the words based on images alone, it may be best to use the spider picture crossword with a word list.
