Free Halloween Coloring Pages for Children

The Kaboose website offers a nice selection of cute printable Halloween coloring pages that are mostly appropriate for younger children. Available for free are images of Dracula, Frankenstein, and a wolf man, trick-or-treaters marching down the road, a cute jack-o-lantern with a kitten popping out of the lid, a spooky haunted house, a jovial skeleton, and a witch stirring her fiery cauldron.

Friendly or Scary Ghosts & Bat Coloring Sheets

The Coloring.ws website offers five cute ghost coloring pages. Except for one image that has slanted eyes, all of the ghosts are fairly friendly. The first image is of a "disalarming" fluffy ghost floating around with his arms up in the air. The second image is the semi-scary ghost with slanted eyes. The third image is of a very friendly ghost with a smiling face. The fourth Halloween coloring sheet is a smiling ghost with big eyes and a long nose who is carrying a trick or treat bag. The fifth Halloween coloring page is of a ghost with a bowtie and two bats holding up a sign that reads “Happy Halloween.”

To access each free coloring page, navigate to coloring.ws/halloween-ghosts.htm, then click on the image thumbnail or text link below each image. To print without ads, click on the text “No Ad Version” in brackets at the top of the page, then print normally.

History Lesson to Accompany Halloween Worksheet Activities

An opportune time for parents to inject a fun learning lesson is when kids are taking part in indoor holiday activities like coloring and completing worksheets. Parents can use any one of the activities mentioned in this article as a lead in to a history lesson about the origins of Halloween. Here are two lesser-known facts from History.com that kids might be interested in learning:

  • Halloween celebrations originated from a Celtic festival called Samhaim. Over the years, this celebration blended with Christian and Roman traditions to ultimately form a modern concept of Halloween, or All Hallow’s Eve.
  • Early United States Americans didn’t celebrate Halloween the same way as they do now. Whereas now the focus is mainly on trick-or-treating and holiday gatherings, the focus was once on ghost stories, fortune-telling, and mischief.
